Benching is continued using a track scraper to
establish manually a 300 mm firm walking
surface with a transverse grade of 6
the bench must be established smooth and with a continuous transverse grade of 6 so that the track discharges any water it may intercept on the downhill side
the backslope must be established if possible at a maximum of 45 to allow comfortable walking, to reduce constant fretting and to provide the best conditions for plants to restabilise that surface
the fillslope should be retained as close as practicable to the bench avoiding the creation of a berm and finished if possible at a maximum of 45
leave the fillslope rough with timber or rocks ex-site. This dissuades traffic, holds leaf fall and encourages revegetation
